Pitting
Akasaka Tsuba - C. 1700 - 1750. This tsuba is one I like very much, despite it's damage. It has heavy pitting in the mimi on two sides of the garde. One of the interesting things about this is that the 3 layer construction of the early Akasaka guards is clearly visible in this pitting. It says about the guard that it is either later Ko Akasaka or one of the smiths following the Ko smiths, possibly by either the 4th or 5th masters.
